Tableau

Introduction

Userful’s integration with Tableau enables you to display Tableau dashboards on your Userful Destination screens.

Requirements

  • This integration works only for Tableau Cloud. It does not currently support Tableau Server on prem and Tableau Server public cloud.

  • Users with any Tableau license (or roles as Tableau calls it) viz., Creator, Explorer, and Viewer can use this integration.

Apps supported

Sources created using this integration can be used in Decisions and Trends.

Authentication methods

There are four Authentication methods you can use to integrate with Tableau. Userful calls these ‘Authentication Types’.

  • Tableau Personal Access Token: This option can only be used by Tableau Site Admins. A site admin can create a Personal Access Token and use Token name and Token value for authenticating and creating the passport.

  • Tableau Password: Like Admin PAT, this option can only be used by Tableau Site Admins. However, multi-factor authentication (MFA) enabled accounts cannot be used for this authentication method. If a site admin has MFA enabled on their account, they must use the Admin PAT method.

  • Connected App: This method can be used by non-admin users. In this method, the site admin creates a Connected App for the non-admin user. The non-admin user can then share the Client ID, Secret ID and Secret Value for authentication.

  • Tableau Public: Any Tableau user can authenticate using this method and access publicly available Tableau dashboards.
