Migrate from Visual Networking to Userful Infinity

Pre-requisites

To migrate to the Userful Infinity platform you will need:

  • The Userful Infinity Platform ISO image file. Contact Userful Sales or Support for this.

  • A USB Flash Drive with 8.5 GB or higher. Userful Infinity ISO file is 8.5 GB in size.

  • Rufus or another USB installer creator with DD write mode.

  • If your Userful server is not connected to the Internet, a copy of your offline license file.

  • The same uClients you use in Userful 11. If you do not use the same uClients in Userful Infinity, content will fail to play on Destinations.

  • Backup of your Media Source files. Media Sources (Video and image Sources) will not be moved to the Userful Infinity platform during migration. Remember to back up your Media Source files separately.

  • Backup of your Userful platform system configuration.

Expected behavior after migration

  • Control Rooms in Userful 11 will be converted to Operation Centers in the Decisions app in Userful Infinity.

  • Resource Groups in Userful 11 will be converted to Mapping Groups in the Artistic app in Userful Infinity.

  • If you have HDMI capture cards Sources in your Userful 11 server, you will need to recreate them in your Userful Infinity server. These will not be imported.

Back-up System Configuration

  1. Log in to your Userful Visual Networking Platform account.

  2. In the left pane, click Support.

  3. Under Backup and Restore, click Backup. A Create Backup window appears.

  4. Click Create Backup and download. The backup file will be created and downloaded to your computer.

Back-up Video and Image Sources

Media Sources (Video and image Sources) will not be moved to the Userful Infinity platform during migration. Remember to back up your Media Source files separately.

Create the Installer

To create the installer, you need the Userful Infinity ISO image, imaging software like Rufus, and an empty USB flash drive. Contact Userful Sales or Support and download the latest ISO image of Userful Infinity. Userful Infinity ISO file is 8.5 GB in size.

Recommended

Verify the MD5SUM of the downloaded file to ensure you have a valid image. The MD5 is available at the same download location as the file.

To check the MD5SUM of the downloaded ISO:

  1. Open the MD5SUM file with Notepad.

  2. Run the following command in the Windows command prompt:

cd Downloads

certutil -hashfile (filename)

The resulting output should match the contents of the MD5 file. If it does not match, retry the download.

To create the installer:

  1. Insert the USB into your computer.

  2. Download Rufus and run it.

  3. Select the USB drive you want to use.

  4. Click SELECT and select the ISO.

  5. Click Start.

  6. Select DD mode from the two available options.

  7. Wait for the process to finish and eject the drive.

Install Userful Infinity

  1. Insert the USB drive and boot your computer.

  • Your system should be configured to boot from the USB automatically. If not, you should enable USB booting from the BIOS or EFI of the system or select USB as a temporary boot device.

  • Userful does not support Secure Boot. To install Userful on a server for the first time, you must disable Secure Boot in the BIOS or EFI, or the system will not boot after installation.

  1. Select Install Userful <version number>.

  2. Select your language and click Continue.

  1. Click Network and Hostname.

  2. Enable the toggle for Ethernet.

  3. Change your hostname before the installation. Caution: If you change your hostname after the initial setup, the platform will not work properly.

  4. Click Installation Destination.

  5. Select the drive in your server and click Done.

  6. Click Reclaim space.

  7. Click Delete all. This deletes the existing file systems that belong to the Userful Visual Networking Platform.

  8. Click Reclaim space.

  9. Select the time zone, and keyboard, and set the date and time.

  10. Click Begin Installation.

Initial Setup - Post Installation

  1. After the installation is complete, click Reboot System.

  2. You will see a screen with the version and the IP address of the Userful server. Navigate to the IP address.

  3. Set a password and click Submit. You’ll be taken to the Site configuration page.

  4. Add domain settings.

    a. If you do not have a domain, do not change the Access URL or enable HTTPS. Go to step 6.

    b. If you have a domain, go to step 5.

  5. If you have a domain, use the toggle to enable https.

    a. Enter your entire domain name including the subdomain.

    b. Upload your SSL Certificate Body.

    c. Upload your SSL Certificate Private Key.

  6. Click Finalize.

  7. A dialog appears asking you to confirm domain settings. Click Ok.

  8. The Userful Infinity Login page appears.

  9. Sign in with your username and password. Note that the default user name is admin and cannot be changed.

Import Userful Visual Networking Backup

  1. In your Userful Infinity account, navigate to to Admin Center > System Configuration > General settings.

  2. Click Import from Userful 11. A panel appears.

  3. Using checkboxes, select all that should be included in the import from Userful 11: Video wall Destinations, Mapping Groups, and Operations Centers.

  4. Click Upload file and upload your Userful 11 backup. The system tells you what can and cannot be imported.

  5. Click Import. Your Userful Visual Networking data will be imported to Userful Infinity.

Best practice after migration

After you migrate to Userful Infinity, create a backup of your Userful Infinity files and configuration. This Userful Infinity backup will be helpful if something goes wrong after migration.

Create a back-up

  1. In your Userful Infinity account, navigate to Admin Center > System Configuration > General Settings.

  2. Click Backup and Restore. You might be asked to log in with your credentials.

  3. Click Backup and Restore. A panel appears on the right side.

  4. Click Create new backup.

  5. Add a name and description for your backup.

  6. Check the Media files box to include video and image Sources in your backup. Else, leave it unchecked.

  7. Click Create Backup. The system creates a backup and prompts you to save it. Alternatively, click the three-dot menu next to your backup name and click Download.
