Persistent Running Session

A Persistent Running Session is a live instance of any existing Interactive source. The persistent session launches in a dedicated virtual display, which is then mirrored to other displays or zones.
A Persistent Session allows you to switch between sources while keeping the active sessions alive. The most common example is a Web Browser source that requires a login. Without a Persistent Session, every time the zone or display moves, the source will restart and the login has to be manually re-entered. With a Persistent Session, the logged-in session remains active.
In this example, moving Zone-0 from Web App to Web Dashboard will cause the session to restart.
But if we configure a Persistent Running Session…
The browser session now runs in the Virtual Displays, the content is mirrored in Zone-0, and we can switch sources seamlessly.
Remember that for the Persistent Session to work, the original source it is using must remain. For this reason it’s a good idea to configure them into the same Resource Group, with the Persistent Session source on top.
Persistent Running Sessions should not reset unless the Userful server is rebooted, or the sources themselves are edited or deleted.

Creating a Persistent Session source

It is a good idea to create both the original Source and the Persistent Session Sources at the same time.
Creating a Web Browser Source, with an accompanying Persistent Session Source
  1. 1.
    Click New Source
. From the drop-down select Persistent Session and give it a name. It’s a good practice to name the session after the original source, such as “Persistent Userful.com”
  2. 2.
Select the source that will play in the background. Note that you must create the source that needs to be persistent first, so there is a direct relationship between the original source and the Persistent source
  3. 3.
Enter the Input Width and Input Height in pixels. This tells Userful how large to make the Virtual Display. You will want this to reflect how large the content will appear on the screen. If in doubt, start with 1920x1080
  4. 4.
Click OK to complete the process
