Pre-Book Server Installation

Pre-Book Server Installation (On-Premise)

Userful offers Pre-Book as a hosted service. For most customers, this is the preferred option. The following instructions are for those deploying their own dedicated Pre-Book servers.

Installing Pre-Book in your own on-premise server is not recommended, as the legacy Pre-Book image no longer supports modern hardware. If there is no option to use a pre-configured Cloud instance, you must contact Userful before proceeding.

Contact Userful to receive a copy of the installation media for the Pre-Book Server software.

Minimum System Requirements

Ensure that your system meets the following criteria. It is possible to install Pre-Book on a machine that doesn't meet all of these requirements but it is not recommended.

The minimum system requirements are as follows.

  • 1GB of RAM

  • A 1GHZ duel core processor (or equivalent AMD processor)

  • 10 GB of available hard disk space

  • A monitor with a minimum of 1024x768 resolution (for installation)

  • DVD drive, keyboard and mouse

  • Ethernet / Network device

Installing Pre-Book Server OS

Installing Pre-Book Server will erase all data from the computer's hard drive.

  1. Ensure that the computer on which you will install Pre-Book Server is bootable from the CD or DVD drive. Depending on the system, this may require an adjustment in the BIOS.

  2. Insert the Pre-Book Server Install CD into the drive and reboot the system. After a few moments, a splash screen will appear.

  3. At this point, type install and press the Enter key.

  4. Installation will proceed automatically.

  5. Once installation completes, you will be asked to remove the Pre-Book Install CD from the CD drive.

  6. Verify that you have the ethernet cable connected to the system and then click Reboot.

  7. The computer will now reboot.

  8. Log in at the prompt. Please contact Userful Support for the credentials.

  9. Once you log in, it is highly recommended to change the default root password for security purposes.

  10. The Pre-Book Server IP address is obtained by typing ifconfig at the command prompt and pressing Enter. Patrons will access Pre-Book booking at that IP address.

  11. Ensure the Pre-Book Server is accessible externally on ports 22 and 80.

  12. It is recommended to set a static IP for this system through your router or firewall.
